Daniel J. Masonic IBM space engineer and family man, of
Stanhope, 78 Daniel J. Masonic, 78, of Stanhope died suddenly from complications
of cancer on Feb. 13, 2008, at Morristown Memorial Hospital, Morristown. A
private family service and Masonic rites will be held. Arrangements are by the
Morgan Funeral Home, Netcong. There will be no calling hours. Interment will be
at the discretion of the family. Born in Lakewood, Wis., Mr. Masonic was the
eldest son of Joseph and Virginia Masonic. A veteran of the Korean War, he was
employed by RCA in Camden as a technical representative, training the Armed
Forces in Europe, Greenland, North Africa and at U.S. bases, from 1956 to 1965.
He retired after 25 years as an IBM engineer in the space program in Huntsville,
Ala., and Owego, N.Y., and was a member of the Society of Logistical Engineers.
The mayor of Little Meadows, Pa., for 12 years and the towns fire company
president, Mr. Masonic was active in his community as a member of the Apalachin
Lions and Masonic fraternities. He was a charter member of Cahaba Temple in
Alabama, past master of Musconetcong Lodge No. 151 in New Jersey, and a 32nd
degree mason. He was also an avid fisherman, woodcarver, golfer, world traveler
and orchid fancier. There is a large, ragged hole left, like part of a treasured
house that has suffered some calamity. Coming from a chilly Wisconsin cabin, Mr.
Masonic could turn his hands to most practical things. He had a homespun desire
to help others and his sense of family was most important to him. A devoted
family man, he leaves Laura, his wife of 50 years; son, Daniel; daughters, Linda
and Kelly; granddaughters, Jessica and Melinda; great-granddaughter, Emma;
special friends, Martyn, Julie and Naeema and family in the U.K.; a sister,
Dorothy Dobesh; brother, James Masonic, and his wife, Gloria; many nieces and
nephews and close friends. All will dearly miss him. In lieu of flowers,
expressions of sympathy may be given in his memory to The Masonic Home, 902
Jacksonville Rd., Burlington, N.J. 08016.
